OK Go @ Snowcial

OK GoLast year we kicked off the tradition of having an awesome musical act play @ Harrah’s on Saturday night during Snowcial. Last year we had Hammer who has turned his music into a community and now commands a powerful social media network.

This year, we’e proud to announce that we have OK Go performing a concert during Snowcial on Saturday night at the South Shore Room @ Harrah’s Lake Tahoe! This is awesome on multiple levels.

First, OK Go is a killer band! Their music is hip and catchy; every song has a unique sound creating a diverse palate for their albums, and concerts.

Second, OK Go is the 900 pound gorilla in the world of viral video and music. You may remember their breakout hit that has become an icon of web video creativity, personality and virality.

Earlier this year OK Go had a bit of a tiff with their Labbel, EMI, over embedding their videos off of YouTube.  They had just released a single, “This Too Shall Pass,” and wanted to share it and let their fans share it across the web. EMI didn’t want to allow embedding because their advertising revenue on the video is tied to viewers watching it on YouTube, not on a fan’s blog. OK Go was more interested in spreading the word of their music so more people would hear it, like it, share it, buy it and get tickets for their concerts.

“Viral content doesn’t spread just from primary sources like YouTube or Flickr.” Damian Kulash Jr., lead singer and guitarist wrote in an Opinion piece in the New York Times. Blogs, Web sites and video aggregators serve as cultural curators, daily collecting the items that will interest their audiences the most.”

But EMI produced the video, so they made the call. So , released it and it went viral… To the tune of 16 million views and counting.

OK Go continues to redefine the relationship of musicians with fans on the web. They just announced a ReMix Contest for their track “White Knuckles.” “OK Go is encouraging everyone to get creative with the track. Redefine the feel and genre if you choose. Ready? OK, go crazy!”

So and see OK Go on Saturday evening. Or sign up here for a chance to win a free All Access Pass.
