Tahoe Snowcial 2010: REALsnow
Like high-speed chairlifts on a powder day, social media has turbocharged the uphill capacity of snow sports marketing and now everyone is out there making first tracks. The distributed nature of brand communications is changing; the purpose of Snowcial this year will be to hypothesize on the future of snow sports media in the face of a sea change, not just in technology, but in the way that technology is applied by real people to real sport, real recreation and real life.
In past years we saw a snow sports media dominated by resorts and manufacturers using traditional media to spread their messages and get all of us stoked for the snow. Over the 2008 / 2009 season we saw the rise of Twitter as a major communication channel for resorts and brands, a huge response to new online communities centered on snow sports and a meteoric rise in online and downloadable video from both the customers and the corporations.
